Making Music Magic at the Lower School Winter Concert
DECEMBER 27, 2023
Earlier this month, the entire Lower School community and their families came together for an evening of music and magic. Beginning with Class IV, students walked down the middle aisle to the front of the room, passing their waving families on the way up to the pews. Once all students made their way to the front of the room, all students sang “Miawoe Zoe.”
The Class of 2036 kicked off the evening with “Oh Watch the Stars” by Georgia Sea Islands, and “Rock and Roll Snowman” by Teresa Jennings. Class I performed a hebrew folk song “S’vivon, Sov Sov Sov,” and “I Hear The Bells (Merry Christmas Time)” by Craig Cassails. Class II sang “For the Winter” by Mike Wilson and “It’s a Marshmallow World” by Carl Sigman and Peter DeRose.
All Lower School students’ voices rose together to sing old English cannon “Peace Round” by Jean Ritchie, Class III performed the Hebrew folk song “Ner Li,” and “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson and Mitchell Parrish, arranged by Kirby Shaw. To finish the evening, Class IV sang “A La Nanita Nana,” a Spanish Villancico (Christmas Carol), arranged by Ruth Elane Schram. Before the night came to a close, Class IV students danced through the aisles singing “Diwali by Mira, Royal Detective” by Jeannie Renee Lurie and Matthew Tishler.
