Class VII Robotics Tournament
DECEMBER 12, 2023
In their computer science course, Class VII students have been exploring robotics and engineering concepts. Beginning with virtual robots and practice using commands and sensors, students learned how to navigate a maze within a digital program to clean up trash in an ocean. From there, they built their own robots, adding sensors and code. Students problem-solved and debugged as they created and modified a robot to compete in a freeze tag competition, all the while recording observations, discoveries, and experiments in their engineering notebooks using sketches, tables, and reflections. Their studies culminated in a recent class period—two teams worked together through coordinated efforts to “freeze” the other team’s robots while avoiding being “frozen” themselves. Following the competition, students will finish the unit with futures-thinking, imagining what the world will be like years from now, and what roles robots will play in our daily lives.
