During their unit on the cranial nerves, Neurobiology students studied the anatomy of the cow's eye, which is often used because of its similarity to human eyes. Students began by examining the optic nerve before the other anatomy because the optic nerve is the cranial nerve II, and transmits visual information from the eye to the brain.
