Nighthawk Athletics at Winter Carnival

Nightingale varsity athletes competed against Brearley in basketball, squash, and swimming at this year’s winter carnival.

BASKETBALL At the basketball double header at Brearley, Nighthawk JV basketball beat Brearley 34-10. Scoring was led by Emma B. ’27 with 11 points and Mia G. ’27 hit a 3-point shot. As a team, the Nighthawks achieved 24 rebounds, 24 steals, and five blocked shots. Varsity basketball tied the game at halftime, and it was a close match until the very end. The Nighthawk’s top two scores for the game were Annabelle G. ’24 with 12 points and Mya B. ’24 with eight points.

SWIMMING At Asphalt Green, Nighthawk varsity swimming took home wins in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:47.96 and the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 2:00.62, thanks to Bridget L. ’28, Malena G. ’27, Laura S. ’26, and Ali W. ’27. Bridget came in first in the 200 Yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:24.25, Ali came in first in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 56.12, and Laura came in first in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 27.19.

SQUASH Over on the squash courts, Nightingale players had a competitive match against Brearley, winning two out of seven games. Olivia T. ’29 had a thrilling match that won 21-19. “The athletes worked hard and played well,” Varsity Squash Coach Ricky Piper reflected. “Outside of the courts, it was packed with spectators watching not only our top seven players but also the exhibition matches as well—it was standing room only.”

“Last Friday’s game against Brearley was a challenging yet inspiring moment for the Nightingale squash team,” said senior squash player Jiya K. ’24. “Despite the final result, the camaraderie and positivity displayed by each and every one of my teammates was truly inspiring. Through every point and every game, we constantly supported and encouraged one another, celebrating for every win and persevering through every loss. I saw my teammates giving it their all and fighting for every point, demonstrating the resilience and unwavering spirit that defines our team. I am so incredibly proud of how far we’ve come as a team and all the work we have put into this season.”

We are thrilled to announce our varsity squash team as well as our JV and varsity basketball teams all moved into the AAIS Playoffs! Special shout out to our JV basketball team, who went undefeated in league-play, winning themselves a #1 seed in the AAIS Tournament!
